Mamma Mia Update

Sherman Community Players Update - 7/15/2020

The Sherman Community Players Board of Directors regretfully announces the postponement of its production of Mamma Mia scheduled for August 14-30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The SCP Board committed to following the guidelines of the CDC and Open Texas. Staying in alignment with those makes a Mamma Mia production especially difficult.

The safety of our cast, crew, and patrons is of paramount importance to Sherman Community Players (SCP).   And as we examined the preparations necessary for this musical performance we could not see a safe path.

Josh Harris, SCP Artistic Director commented "We're profoundly disappointed in the postponement of Mamma Mia.

Ultimately, the responsibility to keep our volunteers, staff, and patrons safe weighed heavily. With such a large cast & crew, the logistics of rehearsing and performing while maintaining safety standards proved to be too difficult.  We are very thankful for the continued support of our season members as we all navigate through this time. "

SCP Board President, Alvin Bailey, echoed similar concerns. “This difficult decision to postpone is made in concert with the actions of other regional theatre groups which have canceled performances. We are concerned about the rising numbers of cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and how this affects our patrons, cast and crew and all other SCP volunteers.”

Mamma Mia has a cast of 32 in addition that would be singing, dancing and in close proximity to each other. Keeping everyone safe while rehearsing was already becoming difficult.

Bailey continued, “We will be in contact with our sponsors and season members in the near future. We apologize for any inconvenience this creates and ask for your understanding and patience as we work through the changes due to this current pandemic. SCP Mainstage and Theatricks looks forward to our 72nd season, which starts in the fall.”

The SCP Board is seeking an appropriate time to reschedule Mamma Mia.
